Each Liga Privada is handmade within a dedicated room in La Gran Fabrica Drew Estate by a small, close-knit team of buncheros and rolleras who specialize in the highly-skilled artform of cigar making. These distinguished pairs are the highest-level rollers in Nicaragua … those with the most experience, the most drive, who roll with their hands and their hearts. Drew Estate’s quality control standards ensure that every Liga Privada which leaves the factory is an outright masterpiece.
Within each Liga Privada blend, you’ll find hand-selected tobaccos of limited availability, slowly aged through an 18 – 36 month fermentation process that brings out the maximum amount of flavor and depth in every cigar. From the original Liga Privada No. 9 to the diverse Unico Serie, each Liga Privada serves as a dedication and accomplishment that deeply honors the legacy of the Connecticut River Valley. To enjoy a Liga Privada is to explore an unrivaled depth and complexity of flavor and pedigree that only a Liga Privada can provide.
Despite the name, Spanish cedar isn’t native to Spain—and it isn’t even a true cedar.
The tree, Cedrela odorata, is native to tropical regions of the Americas and belongs to the mahogany family. Its name became associated with Spain because the wood was historically used extensively in Spanish colonial trade.
So why is it everywhere in the cigar world? Spanish cedar is prized for its aroma, moisture-handling properties, and natural resistance to insects, making it ideal for cigar boxes and humidor interiors.
That means the wood protecting your cigars has a bit of an identity crisis: not Spanish and not technically cedar!
