Long before modern advertising, cigar boxes were miniature billboards—and some were genuine works of art.

During the late 1800s and early 1900s, cigar manufacturers competed for attention using elaborate artwork on their boxes. These colorful designs, known as cigar box labels, featured everything from royalty and historical figures to exotic landscapes and gold-embossed illustrations.

Many labels were created using chromolithography, a printing technique that allowed manufacturers to produce incredibly detailed, multicolored artwork.

The designs became so elaborate that collectors began saving them, and today, original antique cigar box labels can be valuable pieces of advertising history.

So the next time you admire a beautifully designed cigar box, remember: cigar packaging was an art form long before modern branding existed.

🔥 Have you ever kept an empty cigar box simply because it looked too good to throw away?

Some cigars you light right away. Others you turn over in your hand for a minute first, and the Work of Art is one of those. It’s a 4.875 x 60 perfecto with a pointed head, a bulbous body, and a tapered nipple foot. Carlos Fuente Jr. revived that shape when hardly anyone else would roll it. This sampler puts the Rare Pink version against the Hemingway original. The Hemingway wears that sweet, spicy Cameroon wrapper with nuts, toast, and baking spice. The Rare Pink trades it for a darker Ecuadorian leaf and Fuente’s Nicaraguan tobacco for a richer, stronger take on the same curves.

You get two Hemingway Work of Arts, so you can smoke one now and save one. The Hemingway Best Seller rounds it out. It’s a 4.5 x 55 perfecto that’s a little shorter and plumper, and a perfect warm-up before the main event. The Rare Pink line supports breast cancer awareness, a cause Liana Fuente has championed from day one. If you love Fuente’s figurados, this is the box to grab.

Boutique Smoke of the Week by SmokeInn

The Crowned Heads brand has been on fire over the last few years. Just like a great rock band, Crowned Heads seems to churn out hit after hit. Crowned Heads has been successful since the very beginning, but things really ramped up after teaming up with A.C.E. Prime in recent years. The first cigar that Crowned Heads produced at A.C.E. Prime's Tabacalera Pichardo factory was the Juarez, and it was met with much fanfare. Mil Días was the next major project to come out of that factory, and it has proved to be even more successful.

Mil Días translates to 1,000 Days—a reference to the time spent bringing this cigar to life. Don Eradio Pichardo and Luciano Meirelles (of A.C.E. Prime) presented the initial blend to Hubar back in 2017, and that led to a three-year odyssey of blending and experimenting. The end result is a cigar that has since been lauded as the best Crowned Heads cigar on the market.

Mil Días consists of an Ecuadorian Habano wrapper, Nicaraguan binder, and diverse filler tobaccos from Nicaragua, Peru, and Costa Rica. These tobaccos bring a beautifully balanced smoke, with a metric ton of flavor! Your palate will be on overload, with notes of roasted peanuts, sweet nougat, oatmeal, white pepper, and cabinet spices. Simply put, Mil Días belongs in your humidor.
