TOBACCO WAS ONCE WORTH ITS WIEGHT IN MONEY

Long before banks, credit cards, or even a stable cash economy in many parts of the Americas, tobacco was one of the most valuable commodities in the world. During the 17th and early 18th centuries, tobacco was so valuable that it was commonly used as a form of currency throughout the American colonies and the Caribbean.
Farmers paid taxes with it, merchants accepted it for goods, and laborers were sometimes paid in tobacco instead of cash. In colonies like Virginia, warehouses even issued receipts for stored tobacco, and those receipts could be traded much like paper money.
While finished premium cigars weren't used as currency, the tobacco that eventually became them helped fuel international trade and played a major role in shaping the early economies of North America.
It's a reminder that before tobacco became a luxury enjoyed after dinner, it was one of the world's most valuable forms of wealth.
🔥 Would you rather have a wallet full of cash... or a humidor full of premium cigars?
